Independent Contractors (IC) are self-employed individuals that provide supports on a contractual basis. Independent Contractors or Independent Providers actively market their services and are essentially running their own small business. Customers and ICs define the agreed upon services, number of hours, hourly rate and length of service in a contract.
Independent Contractors provide an invoice and progress notes documenting several things however, two important things to remember when providing the service and billing for the service are that:
1.The support provided was directly related to the goal defined in the contract
2. The support provided was necessary due to the customer’s developmental disability
That’s not all! ICs may provide any allowable support as long as that support meets the criteria outlined in the Expenditure Guidelines. In addition to this the hourly rate that an IC may charge must fall within the state mandated Rate Range for the specific service the IC is providing. If you have any questions regarding the service you are providing you should contact the Personal Agent you are working with for clarification.
Because writing progress notes is such an integral part of the service that an IC provides we ask that you review our Progress Note Writing Guidelines. Please do not hesitate to confer with the Provider Coordinator or the Personal Agent you are working with over your progress notes to ensure everyone’s compliance with our rules.
For more information or to begin the qualification process as a provider, contact the Provider Coordinator at (503) 232-2289 ext 128.
Inclusion, Inc is not the employer of the person providing supports for our customers.
